Questions, answered
What retreat leaders ask us.
Can we bring our own caterer or chef?
Yes — the farm kitchen is built for it, and we keep a short list of local chefs and caterers who already know the house. Self-catering works just as well; two refrigerators and a double range have handled everything from soup nights to a fermentation workshop.
What about dietary needs — vegan, gluten-free, allergies?
Handled, not hand-waved. Every chef and caterer on our local list cooks vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free as a matter of course, and we collect your group's allergies with the booking so the kitchen is prepped before anyone arrives. Self-catering groups get a kitchen briefing that flags the dedicated GF prep space.
Is alcohol allowed?
Yes, for your private group — wine at the long table is practically a Leelanau tradition. We just ask that events stay private (no ticketed parties), per our county license.
What's the minimum stay?
We book in two stay lengths: four days (Thursday afternoon through Sunday) and seven days (the full week, Saturday to Saturday). Most retreats take the four-day; writing weeks and deeper immersions take the seven. A different shape is only possible in the rare gap between retreats — ask.
How do deposits and cancellations work?
25% holds your dates; the balance is due 60 days out. Cancel more than 120 days ahead for a full refund, more than 60 days for half. Inside 60 days we'll work with you to re-book the dates — if they re-book, you're refunded.
Can guests beyond our overnight 16 join for the day?
Yes — the barn seats 24, so up to 8 day guests can join sessions and meals. We just need the headcount a week out for seating and parking.
Are pets welcome?
One well-mannered dog per group, by arrangement — this is a working orchard with resident barn cats who have opinions.
Is the property accessible?
The barn's gathering hall, one farmhouse bedroom with an en-suite bath, and both porches are step-free. The upper farmhouse floors and cottage paths are not. Tell us what your group needs and we'll plan rooms honestly with you.
What about quiet hours and neighbors?
The nearest neighbor is across forty acres of orchard. Music winds down at 10:30 pm; inside the barn, the conversation carries on as late as it likes.
